Peeta in order to maintain his favor with the audience develops another mind game which works to his advantage. He joins forces with the Careers just to have the inside scoop and save Katniss. This shows just truly how Peeta has developed into a cunning tribute. From this manipulation he has increased his chances of self preservation.

When the scores are announced, Peeta gets an eight and Katniss gets an eleven. In the morning, Katniss lies in bed for a time after waking and thinks of when she first met Gale. She was in the woods hunting and saw several rabbits hanging from snares.
