With all the bizarre ways the writers interpreted various deaths, we'll come to find the concept of head removal to be pretty common across the Ultimatum storyline. When Magneto's scheme begins to unravel, Nick Fury confronts him with the truth that mutants were produced by humanity and not the natural next step in human evolution.
Devastated, Magneto slips into a temporary psychosis dealing with the fact that his entire world perception is, in fact, a complete lie, and begins to plead with his confronters that Xavier would understand. However, taking justice into his own hands, Cyclops would blast the head of Magneto off his shoulders. While Doctor Doom is one of the most prominent villains across not just Marvel comics, but pop-culture as a whole, the Doom we'd see in the Ultimate universe while still a challenge was nowhere near as resourceful and powerful as his main counterpart.
Following the death of Magneto and the destruction of his citadel, The Thing travels to Latveria after learning the devastating catastrophes of Ultimatum were orchestrated by Doom in a twisted attempt at a power grab. Incensed by the actions of Magneto and having his colleagues obliterated without remorse, Warren petitions to take on Magneto himself; a shortsighted move even if it was his Arch-Angel counterpart.
Being extremely ruthless and cruel, the two aspired to use the inevitable conflict between Magneto, X-Men, and Ultimates to implement their campaign of world domination. Mutants weren't the only ones rebuilding, either -- it was the Ultimates who gave the some of their best moments. With the country literally divided by the disaster and entire regions breaking apart from the union, it was up to Captain America , Thor and Iron Man to reunite the world when it needed them most.
Along the way each of them enjoyed character arcs that were simultaneously the best of dumb comic book fun and genuinely touching. Iron Man had a tumor with which he developed a father-son relationship. Captain America became president. Reed Richards became an even worse supervillain than Doctor Doom and was such a fantastically fun character, he survived right alongside Miles Morales into the following the 's bittersweet death.
Next to none of this gets any credit in retrospectives of Ultimate Marvel and Ultimatum. For all the gritty realism and flawed characters, it had more than enough fantastical adventurism and sincere optimism to strike a balance.
Much of that may have not been possible if one of its worst events didn't wipe the world clean and give it a chance to build a new one that made the most out of its opportunity. The problem with this is not only the event it created but also its lasting impact on the Ultimate Marvel world.
Ultimatum was critically panned, considered by many to be one of the worst comic events Marvel has ever published. Ultimates 3 revealing that it was Doctor Doom who had manipulated Ultron into killing Wanda was one thing, but the revelation that Quicksilver had been alive throughout Ultimatum was another head-scratcher as it negated any logic that Magneto had in his genocidal actions.
Although it redeems Hawkeye whose outlook and mentality would improve over time, this moment begins a dark period for the Ultimate Marvel universe that they never truly recovered from. There is where the Ultimatum wave hits and throws a cruise ship right in front of the Police station. Spider-Woman saves her from the police and takes her to a building. May questions the girl and makes her promise she will save Peter.
Back at the train, when Kitty is finished saving the people from the train ungratefully some of those people blame her because she is a mutant. As she is trying to pull herself together MJ argues how is it possible she let Peter go, then she punches Kitty in the face. MJ questions the fact that she cares for him and mentions that she doesn't understand that she loves him.
Kitty's responds is that she does understand, and with that note she leves them behind to try and help out. Hulk and Spider-Man helped many people until a point where Spider-Man found a dead man in costume under the ruble, Daredevil. With no time to mourn over his dear friend's death Hulk and Spider-man see Doctor Strange 's Sanctom blowing up. Magical beings start bursting out of control and Hulk and Spidey try and stop it. Dormamu, powered by the Human Torch, appears and kills everything in his path, apparent including Spider-Man.
Now that Sue and Ben have located Johnny they go in to get him back. The Invisible Woman uses a force-field over Dormamu's head cutting the oxygen from the monster and Johnny gives it all it's got to cut his breathing off.
Hulk survives this and causes his rage to go up again. Spider-Woman follows the explosion and gets followed by Hulk in the end. Kitty Pryde fails to find Peter but meets up with Spider-Woman. The two girls team up and try to save as many people they can. During the process the find Spider-Man's mask, confirming his death to them. This edit will also create new pages on Comic Vine for:.
